His father was the founder of Houston Texans and he also did great work in the energy sector of the United States. His mother, Janice McNair is the co-founder and senior chair of Houston Texans. Besides that, he has also held executive positions at the Palmetto Trust Company and RCM Financial Services. His roles in these companies helped him develop a businessman mindset and enhanced his leadership qualities.

Cal McNair has been a part of the Houston Texans since 1999. He used to do supporting roles at first but gradually took over more responsibilities. He was appointed as the vice chairman of the Houston Texans in 2008 and became the team’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) in 2012. As a COO, he used to operate both football and business operations of the team.
He started managing the team when his father, Bob McNair, passed away in 2018. Later, he officially became the chairman of the team in July 2018. He was named the Chief Executive Officer of Houston Texans in January, 2019. In March, 2024, he was formally approved as the principal owner of Houston Texans.
